Which Watches OMEGA and NASA Brought to the Moon?

This special edition, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of OMEGA's NASA Snoopy Award, not only features a vivid depiction of the adorable Snoopy on the dial, but also, for the first time, an "animated" complication that shows Snoopy orbiting the moon in a lunar module. This is a tribute to past glories and a reflection of OMEGA's longstanding passion for space exploration.

OMEGA Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary has been selected to be the “Best of All” watch of 2020 by IDaily Watch. For the first time, the 50th Anniversary Edition features a dark blue + panda dial color scheme, with laser-engraved sub-dials on the silver dial and, of course, the image of Snoopy in his spacesuit at 9 o'clock - a faithful reproduction of the NASA Snoopy silver medal. The dial is slightly tilted at the minute markers to give it a nice three-dimensional look, with a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and a small seconds counter at 9 o'clock. Turning to the caseback is the main event - a close-up of the moon on the sapphire crystal, with the Earth disc in the distance linked to the seconds hand, rotating every 60 seconds; if you activate the chronograph function, Snoopy will rotate out from behind the moon in the Apollo 13 capsule and return around the moon as if it were a mission to the moon. In the background, the starry sky is engraved with the medallion inscription "EYES ON THE STARS".

How many Snoopy series did OMEGA announced with NASA?

In 2003 and 2015, OMEGA commemorated the award with the Speedmaster Snoopy, and for its 50th anniversary, 2020 saw the launch of the third generation of the Speedmaster Snoopy.

The OMEGA Speedmaster '57, which follows many of the classic design elements of the first Speedmaster chronograph from 1957, has a simple dial design with two sub-dials and an innovative dial layout that places both the 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph hands in a sub-dial at 3 o'clock, while a second sub-dial at 9 o'clock records the seconds hand.


The design of the OMEGA Speedmaster "CK2998" Limited Edition follows the traditional elements of the watch, while retaining the classic Alpha hands and symmetrical steel case. The dial features a central chronograph seconds hand with a "lollipop" type hand, and the movement houses the iconic caliber 1861, OMEGA's first movement to go into space.


The OMEGA Speedmaster 'Dark Side of the Moon', worn by the Apollo 8 astronauts who were the first humans to see the dark side of the moon, pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of the nine Apollo missions that led mankind to the moon and then back to Earth. The chronograph has a black zirconia ceramic dial; two blackened sub-dials that make it unique compared to other "moon watches"; and a sub-dial at 3 o'clock with both 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph functions.
